Extended stay style hotel close to city center Jun 05, 2015
I stayed at Travelodge Phillip Street Sydney City hotel for few days when most of the hotels around that area were up selling but this place had some special rates, so I made the reservation through Expedia.com.

I paid about $125/night on average which was well over my budget, however, considering the location, room and amenities I did not regret it.

The hotel is located in the famous Martin Place area, within 2 mins walk to Martin Place metro station which made very convenient to go around the city every now and then. The hotel building is adjacent to the well known Lindt Cafe, which became a recent tourist attraction because of the incident when a gunman took hostages during December 2014. I was passing by that Lindt Cafe everyday and witnessed tourists talking pictures and selfie at that spot!

The hotel is easy to spot, but the main entrance to the lobby is little highly elevated from the road, so there are few steps to climb making it bit difficult with luggage.

The lobby is pretty simple with hardly couple of seats since the lobby area is attached to a cafe/bar and a hidden restaurant! The staff were very friendly and even did not hesitate to check-in as early as 9:30am! The check-in process was quick and the staff give little overview about everything about the hotel and tips for to go around Sydney. The hotel has huge collection of attraction brochures and info cards which is really helpful if you do not have time to do online research.

Surprisingly, I got a room of my choice on the high floor with some view of the city. I guess all rooms in this hotel has a mini kitchen area without the cooking burners, but mostly microwave oven and water kettle will often suffice for short term guests.

The room was spacious for a huge king sized bed and had big floor to ceiling windows with nice curtains on an entire side facing the city. There was also a big sofa with a coffee table in addition to a circular dinning/work table. The room lighting were good and the interior was pretty decent as well.

The bed was really good with clean sheets and pillows and it was reasonably comfortable.

The small closet was nice and I had few wooden hangers, iron/iron board, hair dryer and an iron safe.

The small kitchen had a small fridge, microwave, kettle, washing liquid/cloth, full set of dishes and silverware for complete dinning and coffee/tea supplies.

The bathroom was neat and clean, so nothing to complain about even though it only had a stand-up style shower. However, the huge shower head and good hot/cold water pressure was the plus. Towels were clean, but the toiletries provided were very basic.

The hotel has business center on the 6th floor where computers and printers can be used for a minimal fee, like $1-2 for an hour or so, which became very handy for taking printouts. There is also a coin-operated laundry machine on the 6th floor which was also very helpful! Since I was on the 6th floor close to these facilities it was very handy. They also offer free limited wi-fi with daily cap, I remember like 500MB or so per 24hrs, but if you have more than one device it should not be problem.

The hotel has an attached cafe/bar and restaurant, which I did not use, but the day I wanted to check it out, they were closed due to the Easter holiday!

The hotel also provides help with tours and can also arrange shared shuttle to the airport. It only costs around A$15 to the Sydney international airport.

Moving around the city is not a problem at all and just 2 mins walk to Martin Place metro station can take anywhere to the Sydney neighborhood by trains and buses.

Overall, I liked this hotel especially for the facilities and closest proximity to the train station. However, walking along the Martin place station after hours seems to be very quiet and lonely, but I did not encounter any issues during my stay.
