Travelodge are a UK hotel chain that provide basic accomodation. Usually the earlier you book the cheaper the room rates. They are really just basic rooms, but do however tend to be modern, clean and reasonable value if you are just wanting a place to bunk down.

We chose to stay in Kingston, to fit round our plans for the weekend, and needed a place where we could get two rooms. Slight confusion as there are two Travelodges in Kingston, and they are very close together(so obviously we went to the wrong one first :-D and it actually looks better than the one we stayed in).

Close to the train station, which is next to bus station with direct X26 bus to Heathrow, in the town centre, so much so that there was no whining about the walk from the wife or the kids.

Automatic entry doors, which are locked from 10pm and activated with room key, to foyer with lifts. Reception is on the first floor, and there was someone on the desk when we arrived. Rooms were sorted out quickly, but next day we found the receptionist had only set up the room keys for one night instead of three and had to get them reactivated.

Rooms were fine when we entered, and all the stuff you would expect were there, so first thing, after our journey was to make a cup of tea :-). the only thing lacking, and it is in most of these buget hotels, is a fridge. It did have an iron, which wasn't much of a compensation for me. TV had a limited nunber of cable channels.

Despite it being a fairly big hotel it was remarkably quiet, and only bumped into a few other guests on the odd occasion.

With the four of us staying there I booked breakfast for us all, and even managed down myself twice. Breakfast was served in the bar area and had the full range of eats and drinks available. Had a cooked breakfast first morning, which wasn't that fantastic, but needed to fill up for an early start that day ;-). Second time I only bothered with toast, which was perfect since I did it in the toaster myself.

Not spectacular, but you get what you pay for, and on the whole this type of hotel are pretty standard, no matter the location, so you know what you are going to get before you arrive. Would have no problem about staying in it again.
