Travelling in China Beijing Reviews
Things to know about china Feb 10, 2014
Overall once you arrive in china, getting around and daily expenses are rather cheap compared to the USA. Don't buy clothes!!! Clothes on average are 2 to 3 times more expensive, go figure since they are all made here.
The first thing to keep in mind is that china is rife with pickpockets. Watch your back constantly and be suspicious of everyone. My wife is from here and she has had her phone stolen 4 times and purse snatched a few more. Being an American will put a target on your head right away. A few tips and you'll be fine.
1) guys- don't carry your wallet in your back pocket. Keep it in your front pocket and keep your hand on it.
2) women - only bring a purse that has a zipper that closes all the way. These people are good and they will pick you clean while you are walking. Just look it up on YouTube.
3) be careful on a bus and subway. Keep your back to a wall or sit down when it is crowded. If possible take a taxi, they are not too expensive.
On to the next item. Toilet paper. CARRY IT with you at all times. Public places typically don't have the TP. Most people carry small travel packs of tissue paper for your nose. Also bring if possible reusable shopping bag or two if possible if you plan on doing any shopping at a market or something. They charge for bags.
Next tip. Like dave Matthews band said, "don't drink the water." Chinese people have a thing for warM or hot water and there is a good reason for it. It's very bad and could make you sick. Drink bottle water or boil it in the pots that are everywhere.
Last item. I stayed at the doubletree Beijing. If your a hilton member it's awesome. Great service and decent location to the bus line.

Tips for travelling in Beijing. Jul 02, 2011
This is hot place during the summer, and "cool" in winter. Pretty much it's more similar as NYC.
Plenty of nice place you can visit, like Forbidden city, Great wall, ofcoz lots of pubs and clubs during the night time, places in Sanlitun and Houhai.
You'd better carry some cash with you. It's much better now, that a lot of place accepts credit card, visa or master, hardly American Express. But still cash is the most popular way to buying stuff.
Taxis are everywhere in Beijing, and you don't need and you don't want to rent a car, coz if you come from Euro or US, the driving style in China is a little bit different, hard to get used in a short time.
