Tram Controllers Mar 17, 2011
I recommend always buying a ticket when riding public transport in prague. They will come around to control you at any time, although it has only happened to me once. If you are caught without a ticket or an unvalidated ticket, they will fine you 700 crowns, or $35.

Trams and tickets in Prague Dec 31, 2010
You can buy tickets from the Tabac shop. A single ticket will cost around 18cz and a transfer ticket will cost 26cz. You can use the transfer ticket as many times as you like within 75 minutes. You must validate your ticket when you get on the tram. There are plain clothes inspectors who will ask to see your ticket. If you have one but it's not validated, you will get an on the spot fine!

If you plan to do lots of travelling around then I suggest you buy a day pass or a multi day pass. We paid 100cz each for a day ticket which we could use on the trams, trains/metro, buses and the funicular railway. Great value for money and much better than buying lots of transfer tickets which are only valid for 75 minutes!

The Czek travel system works brilliantly! The trams run very regularly and there is a night service too. Although, it gets a bit confusing about which way to travel so get a good travel guide which shows the tram numbers and you will have no problems. You soon get used to it!

There is an announcement when the tram gets to a stop and then it is followed with the name of the next stop. There is a map in each tram showing the stops so you can count how many stops.

Trams are a great way to get around and you can see so much more of Prague if you use them!
