Cheap and Central Location Mar 07, 2011
Very close to the main square in the small Czech town of Cesky Krumlov, the Travellers Hostel Soukenicka is centrally located and a nice hostel to stay at.

Not hard to find, as there is a sign, clearly marking where the hostel is, only a few minutes by foot from the main square. You see big wooden doors, and when entering through them, you come to a bar. Then another door, to a set of stairs, leading you to the hostel.

If arriving when reception is closed, you may have to ring a bell on the side of the door, to get in contact with the owner. She was very nice and helpful, and has a cat, which runs around the place.

The room are very basic, and no bunk beds. Instead, single beds side by side. The big issue is the locking and unlocking of the dorm door, which can take some getting used to, in terms of which way and how many times to turn to lock. Plus when entering or exiting, there is that step to watch out for. If you are not careful, you can stumble.

The place dates back to the 13th century, so there is some charm to the place. Feels a little like you are stepping back in time when walking around the hallways and seeing the doors. There is a balcony where you get some good views of the castle. It has a kitchen and nice bathrooms. The cheapest option in town, and the location just cannot be beat.

I stayed here in March, and had the room all to myself, so my experience could differ from those that stay during the busy season. Some services were scaled back, like no breakfast during the off-season.

Keep in mind that the hostel is directly over a bar, which is likely to be open during the busy season, into the late hours.

Cheap and nice hostel Aug 18, 2011
Travellers' Hostel is located right in the center of Cesky Krumlov, just 2' away from the main square. There's a supermarket nearby and a bar and restaurant on the ground floor where both tourists and locals go. I liked the hostel in itself a lot, it's got a very laid-back atmosphere and it's very easy to meet fellow travellers there. There's a kitchen/tv room and a big balcony where the guests can hang out day and night:)

The dorms are bright, big, no bunk beds. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It's pretty quiet at night in the dorms although the bar is just one level under and usually stays open until late. I loved the atmosphere there and met fellow travellers very easily. I would stay there again and totally recommend it to anyone looking for a nice and cheap hostel downtown Cesky Krumlov.
