Travellers Beach Resort Negril Reviews

Beach resort Jun 08, 2014
Negril is famous for the long stretch of beach outside the actual town. The beach is lined with one beach resort after the other so you will have lots of places to choose between. When we arrived we came from Black River so we arrived at the southern end of the beach which is probably the reason we ended up at this resort at the southern end of the area. If you have any plans to leave the resort and go to Negril this location is actually pretty good since it is still walking distance to the small village of Negril which do have a couple of small shops so you will not have to depend on the even smaller shops you’ll find at the resorts - but even here at the southern end of the beach it is a bit of a walk if you are carrying too many groceries so a taxi might be advisable.

The Travelers Beach Resort looks a bit bigger and fancier compared to most of the other resort - the pool is bigger and the restaurant down at the beach is fairly big and inviting to eat in the shade of some big trees down at the beach. So in general the place gives a good impression. There are a lot of amenities for you to take advantage of like their own dive center which you can use even if you stay somewhere else - they do want your business. There is also a fitness area if you don’t sweat enough in the Caribbean temperatures around the place - I don’t think there was actually air-con in the fitness room so you will sweat if using it.

The common lobby is a big open area where you can hang out if you want but there doesn’t seem to be many people doing this probably because there is no air-con or bar in the lobby area to get people to actually stick around there. Outside they got a guarded parking lot and lots of space for people to park - at least during July which is a bit low season in Jamaica area.

They have at least two kinds of room - hotel rooms which is equipped with air condition and in a hotel like building on the one side of the resort these rooms hasn’t actually got individual balconies but you can sit outside your room on walkways which lead around the building - you will have some privacy since there is generally a part of the walkway which will only lead to your room and not shared with the other rooms.

Down below in the garden is a few cottages which look more inviting and they are cheaper and come with a kitchen and a small balcony in front - but they do not have air-con so if this is a must for you they are not really an option.

We liked our stay and actually wanted to come back a couple of days later so we tried to book the room for our return. Unfortunately they claimed to be fully booked when we came back - mainly because most of the rooms were closed down for maintenance during the low season. So we could only get a small room with no view of the beach and the price was the same we had paid last time. So we decided not to go for the hotel on our return and instead find another better value hotel nearby.

Love the looks of the building from outside, it looks very pretty with wooden cottage stand along the walk way up to the beach painted with white and blue colour – deeper than the blue sky – more like deep blue water on the ocean. It looks very peaceful, calm, and serene.

The reception building stand separately at the main street with pretty impressive lobby and a small water fountain in the middle of it, and we thought the room price would be very expensive from the show of reception building, but we dare to go inside and ask the reception about the price.

It turn up, not too bad, the double room for two people cost usd 65 per night for two people without breakfast. Buffet breakfast can be purchased separately from the reception or directly from the restaurant at the beach front or can order directly from the breakfast menu.

The reception showed up the room which located at the second floor made from the brick wall and not a wooden cottage. I love the wooden cottage unfortunately it appears, the cottage is more basic than the room we have since the cottage size is smaller and no air condition and everything is very basic (after we managed to peep inside the cottage) and it turn up cheaper price – only cost usd 25-30 per cottage.

Anyway, our room is spacious enough with one double bed and one single bed inside the room, big windows, modern amenities and definitely air condition at this hot climate. The mattress is comfortable enough and there is old screen television and fridge. However, for some reason, the staff took our fridge away after we come back from our walk around the beach. When we asked she said, the fridge is not included in the room – how odd, since it was described it was included. But it was okay.

It as a bit noisy in the morning when we get up since we can hear the house keeping talking next door when do their job.

The hotel has it is own restaurant right at the beach front serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, gym, play room, swimming pool which is free for hotel guests and also a dive centre with a fee if want to dive in the area. The beach is right at the back of the hotel and it was very nice to just jump on the water in the afternoon to cool down.

We tried the hotel bar and restaurant at night time for our dinner. The food was okay, nothing special but the ambience was good and it was right at the beach front with candle lights, very beautiful. We had breakfast in the morning, unfortunately the food selection for buffet was not good, since we turn up a bit late around 9.30am and all the food was gone and no replenishment of it even though some people still coming for breakfast – which is bad sign for this kind of establishment.

We love the place and decided to book and stay for one week when we come back in a couple days time, unfortunately when we come back, there were no room available and in the end, we stay next door which is similar with it but cheaper in price.

Quite a nice place with good value for the money Apr 30, 2011
The Travellers Beach Resort in Negril is a place that attracts young travellers except out of season. The hotel is situated on the beach side on the western part of the Negril coastline.

The hotel has both hotel rooms with air condition and bungalows which only are cooled with a fan. We negotiated the price down for a couple of bungalows to 50 us$ per night which I found reasonable.

The hotel had just had its main season with the end of Easter so it was pretty calm considering that I was there in a weekend. It is a wild hotel during the spring breaks. The bungalow was pretty simple in its furnished; it had a double bed that was pretty short, a drawer and a chair. There were also 2 safes of which none worked. There was a TV which I only turned on for lighting because there were only two light bulbs in the bungalow.

The bathroom had both hot and cold water, there was a fair sized shower and the things worked fairly okay. My hut was situated close to the beach and the hotel pool which attracted some noise but not more than I was okay with it.

On Friday and Sunday evenings they had a karaoke program that lasted from 7 pm to almost midnight and that was much harder to handle; especially since there were some young Jamaican girls that thought they could sing. They took over the stage and they managed to kill almost all songs they tried to sing. I guess this activity was far more fun during spring break or when the hotel was full.

There was free Wi-Fi but it was pretty hard to get a signal but some places the signal was better than others. The staffs were all nice and friendly, which was pleasant. The place was also a good spot for watching the famous Negril sunsets.

There were possibility to go to a very sparse fitness room; well it was almost a joke, but they had table tennis and pool. There was a 50 meter beach connected to the hotel and the water was clear and calm.

There was also a restaurant connected to the hotel where you had possibility of breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was also a large bar in the facility.

The staffs were really friendly and they were nice talking too all of them. I had some really nice chats about all different subjects and daily life in Jamaica – and they shared willingly.

Their restaurant served really great food and we had dinner and breakfast there every day. They had some really good fish dishes and I had some great shrimps and conch menus.

The restaurant was situated almost next to the water and you had a great view over the famous Negril sunsets from there.

For breakfast they had some good offers on fresh fruits and I especially liked their vegetables like callaloo and omelettes; well don't avoid their coffee if you like a good cup of coffee in the morning.
