Trattoria Da Piva Vernazza Reviews
Lunchtime in Vernazza May 14, 2012
Located in one of the honeycombed passageways of Vernazza, Da Piva sits on a wide spot in a stairwell. It makes for a charming setting, with several tables sitting in the walkway that complement a small indoor space. Though you cannot see the sea, or much else, you can still sense the bracing salt air and know you are seaside.
Our threesome delved into the depths of their menu. Kim & Eric had some local wine and Eric ordered gnocchi with pesto, while Kim had a plate of anchovies and a bowl of mussels and I enjoyed an anchovy and potato dish. The food was well prepared and delicious, and our waiter was accommodating and spoke good English, so we were in heaven.
Chatting with the waiter, we learned the water had reached a height of a meter and a half in the restaurant during the mud slides and they had only re-opened Easter weekend. Though a bit pricey, Da Piva was probably comparable to all the other joints in Vernazza and we had no regrets trying to help the town get back to square one. Nothing spectacular, but a very pleasant dining experience.
