Trattoria 4 Leoni Florence Reviews
Traditional trattoria serving up the best steak all Florentina Dec 25, 2012
Restaurants always come and go, some stay open for 6 months, some for a few years and some seem to last forever and Quatro Leoni is one of those special places that has been serving up Florence's famous Steak alla Florentina ( T BONE STEAK) since 1550.
The restaurant is located on the small Piazza della Passera on the other side of the Arno river away from the historical centre of the town.
When entering the restaurant you will be greeted by the friendly staff and shown to your table, the waiter will be happy to go through the menu and explain or recommend any of the food.
The restaurant is famous for steak alla Florentina. The steak comes in various sizes starting from 1 kilogram and ranging I think up to 5 kilograms that would be a lot of meat. We also ordered avocado salad and gnocchi with tomato sauce, along with a decanter of house wine.
The restaurant has a rustic but vibrant appeal with the lively diners mingling with one another and the waiters making conversation to their guests. I was shown pictures of the waiters children and told of the Japanese chef they used to have who was trained here and then went back to Japan to open his restaurant.
Whenever a steak was served everyone seemed to pause what they were doing to try and get a glimpse of the size of it. Ours came served on a wooden slab and as it was placed on the table the waiter smiled and said "its a bit over the kilogram", suggesting it was about 1.2 -1.3 kilograms. They don't actually weigh them as they cut it when the steak is ordered.
The meat was tender and juicy and tasted divine truly one of those great dining moments by the end of it our stomach was bloated and we couldn't possibly eat anymore. At the end of the night we thanked the wonderful people who looked after us and stumbled back to our hotel.
I highly recommend this trattoria, make sure you make reservations as it is very popular and hard to get a seat. Pictures cover the wall of all the famous people who have dined here like Spike Lee, Kevin Costner, Naomi Cambell, Red Hot Chilli Peppers band and all the other Italian celebrities.
Dinner including wine came to about 50 euro for three people.
