Transportation Bristol Reviews
How to get about in Bristol! Jun 10, 2011
As with most big cities transportation is a big factor in getting around! Bristol is no exception! That said, most of the attractions in Bristol tend to be located altogether in the centre. These are the pros and cons to travelling about:
These are one of the best ways of getting around! They are both quite cheap and cost effective! You can get day rider tickets on First buses which means you can travel as much as you like all day! If you are a student then you can these tickets for £3.50 (as of June 2011). The best place to get buses are near the Hippodrome in the centre.
Bristol is also a hub for coach travel all over the country. Megabus in particular is a good and very cheap way of getting round the country. Bear in mind you need to buy your ticket online before you get on the coach though! Getting to London by Megabus is the cheapest way of getting there although not the quickest! National Express is probably the only other operator but are nowhere near as cheap.
There are quite a few train stations in Bristol and therefore the quickest way of getting around both the city and the country. This, however, comes at a price and British trains are nowhere near as good or cheap as European ones. If you are pushed for time though this is your best option for travelling.
Realistically the only time you are going to need a taxi is if you are very pushed for time or you are out at a time when there is no other transportation! If it is the latter then prices could be more expensive! On the whole they aren't that expensive though especially if there is a few of you!
Bristol also has an international airport which flies to various domestic and international destinations. The airport itself is not in the city however, so your best bet is to take a shuttle bus from the bus station to get there.
Also in Bristol there is a mini ferry service which takes people up and down the river to other parts of the harbourside. This is a really good idea as its both cheap and you get to see all the buildings and moored boats along the way!
