Transkei otherwise known as the valley of a thousand hills. It includes the prestine coast line the Wild Coast on the east of South Africa.
The most common language spoken here is Xhosa and the people out side of the city, Umtata, still live in rural most colorful huts. Therefore the area is relatively undevelopt and lots of backpacking can be done. Although some luxury hotels have been built on the coast.

The Transkei situated in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa is (in my opinion) one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. It is also known as the 'Wild Coast'. The seas off this coast are shark infested and it's not uncommon to see sharks while surfing or diving. Dolphins, Manta rays and whales are abundant here too.

Some photos from a six week trip to South Africa in 2006. Explored much of Kwa-Zulu Natal and some of the Eastern Cape. Although I grew up in South Afica, every time I return i am left astounded by the natural beauty of the country. Highly recommended for anyone who's thinking of going.
