Trainfest
Trainfest Reviews
affordable family fun May 19, 2009
Trainfest is the largest operating model railroad show in the country. It can be a bit overwhelming when you walk in, but luckily, people in Milwaukee are very friendly so there is always someone to point you in the right directions. The most obvious attractions are the 50 operating layouts housed in the building. Lots of them display Wisconsin tourism highlights (like lake cottages, river trips, etc) or historical scenes (old time mining and logging, anyone?). About a dozen historical groups supplement these displays with information of their own.
Trainfest is perfect for people who know lots about model trains and people who are just getting started: there are clinics and demonstrations designed to get you in the know, and tons of hobby dealers and manufacturers showcasing their latest products. If you have knowledge you can share, consider volunteering! For families with young kids (especially in this economy!), Trainfest is a great choice. Children especially like the train built out of LEGO blocks, the rides on a circus train, and train races. Radio Disney also sets up shows and a craft booth. |
