Tube - Metro Mar 04, 2011
Hi,

It´s very cheap to travel in Porto.

You can use the tube for 1€ - hour. with more than one destination.

If you are going to 3-days there is an optional ticket too.

Enjoy!

A very memorable circuit Nov 04, 2010
I have graded this trip as cheap because the Portuguese railway fares are about the lowest in Western Europe but for anybody above 65 it's VERY cheap - half fare on the rail stretches.

First stretch: from São Bento on the Douro rail line to Livracão.

Change to the branch line to Amarante. It's good to wander down beyond the bridge and have your picnic beside the river with umpteen wagtaiils in the wall behind you.

next stage: BUS to Vila Real - you may have to be quick here for your next train but if you need a taxi, agree a price in advance!

Next: Branch rail line from Vila Real to Peso de Regua

Last: go back on the Douro line to Porto.

On the last stretch it should be light as long as you are right near the river. All in all you will have enjoyed great scenery.
