Toyoko Inn Seoul Dongdaemun Apr 02, 2011
This is a good location in Seoul especially for visiting the city . Your are close to the Dongdaemun Station which hold its reputation for shopping and University ( student and tourist area ) . I was surprise they call it budget place cause it's really clean , really central and it look better than an simple hostel . The price of the room is approximately 70 Dollard a night which is reasonable in the center . In any case , Seoul is a place to see once on earth . Different atmosphere you cannot feel everywhere , respectfull people , gorgeous temples .... My stay was defintely pleasant over there !

Basic but comfortable accommodation in Seoul Aug 22, 2010
An apparently new addition to the cheap-and-cheerful Japanese chain of business hotels, Toyoko Inn, is located very centrally. "Central location", however, is a very VERY loose and relative term when you're talking about the third most populous urban area in the world.

Nevertheless, the hotel is literally a stone's throw away from the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park underground station, an intersection of three underground lines (2, 3 and 5). From personal experience, you can actually reach all popular tourist sites in Seoul by using those lines and not mucho interchange. How cool's that?! For people who cherish (and can only afford) public transport, it's even better because getting to the hotel from Incheon airport involves only one (yes, only ONE) interchange. Perfect!

Did I mention that the hotel is literally a few steps from the largest shopping district in Seoul, with its overground and underground markets and big department stores? Guess I did... now.

The hotel and hotel rooms are very clean. My ecstatic experience of cleanliness has only been hindered by one thing: you can smoke in the room, and it seemed to me that I got the room previously occupied by the Marlboro man himself. At the time, it appeared that all rooms were smoking rooms. But, according to the current rate list on their website, they seem to have non-smoking rooms now, albeit with a twist: there are no windows in those rooms. Go figure.

The room is comfortable and big enough (or not too small, depending on how full is your glass), and it comes equipped with toiletries, TV set (cable TV with channels in Korean lingo, however the movies are not dubbed, so that's something, I guess), slippers, PJs, bathrobe, fridge stocked with water bottles and tea/coffee. However, the best feature on offer is totally free and pretty fast LAN internet. Plug the cable into your laptop and go wild. LAN cable seems to be provided by the hotel, even though the official website says that customers should have their own cable.

Bathroom/shower is pretty basic, but very functional. The toiletries and fresh towels are provided daily (unless you specify otherwise), and you can experience the ultimate Japanese gadget you were always wondering about: yes, the electronic toilet seat!

So the hotel is pretty affordable: for a single room (with quite a large bed), you fork out about 30/35 pounds. That includes your Japanese-style buffet breakfast (rice cakes with salads and steamed marinated veggies, plus tea/coffee and so on), which, admittedly, won't be everyone's cup of tea. For the non-geeks, there's a few computers in the lobby hooked onto the internet, free to use, and a few vending machines, should you get munchies during the night. No restaurants.

I'd definitely recommend this fine establishment to fellow travellers who literally need a peaceful place to sleep and rest: it's pleasant, pretty affordable however with not many amenities, the location is great, and right next to a big transport hub. So there. I said it.
