Nice bigger town after small sleepy places Oct 01, 2012
Where to start?! This is a great place and everything is within walking distance. The Greyhound bus stop is by the ferry crossing so there is easy access to Magnetic Island.
The Strand is a long straight stretch of tarmac and beach with free electric BBQ’s en route and gym equipment. It gets quite busy here between 5 and 7pm with fitness enthusiasts, dog walkers and children playing in the many parks. There is a lagoon style outside swimming pool which has a lifeguard as well as a free water park. Walking from one end to the other will take around 30-45 minutes but it is well worth the lazy stroll. Unfortunately the water is the dirtiest that I have come across to date as the surf kicks up the dusty rough sand. At the far end of The Strand is a rock pool and Kissing Point.
George Street, found along The Strand, has a few bars but mainly cheap eateries and beyond that is a supermarket, bottle shops and a McDonalds (free Wi-Fi).
Along Flinders Street you will find more bars and clothes shops as well as a very helpful information center. The ladies in here were great and more than happy to provide bus timetables, etc.
There are a few doctors surgeries but only one providing Dive Medicals for $75, there is one other opposite the information center charging $130!!!!
