Excellent Opal mining town! Very friendly! Jun 01, 2011
Mintabie is an AMAZING little town. It has no sealed roads, one pub, a golf club (though I don't think anyone actually plays golf!), Post office with internet and 3 corner shops which sells everything from bread and milk to explosives for mining!

This is a close knit community who LOVE tourists! Just rock up to the local pub for some accommodation (approx $20 a night.. but really depends how friendly you are ;) and a local is bound to offer you a tour of the opal fields and mines.

Noodling is a town sport where you can find a nice piece of your own opal without having to do any of the hard work!! Miners may invite you to look through their piles of 'rubbish' they push out of their mines. Or you could have a look in an old mining site to see if anything was left over.

This town is alot of fun. It is full of weird, wonderful and kooky locals that really bring out the Australian spirit.
