Towers Hill Charters Towers Reviews
A Relaxing Lookout Jun 06, 2009
You could easily spend a few hours up on this hill, just walking around the trails, taking photos or sitting and having a small picnic. It doesn't cost anything to enter, and it just a 2 minute drive or 15 - 20 minute walk from the city centre. It provides a stunning view of the city, as well as detailed signage about the history of this place.
Towers Hill was the location where gold was first discovered in Charters Towers, and a small ampitheatre has been constructed which screens movies at night time to give more info about this. These movies are around $7 and run at night times. Tickets are purchased from the Visitors Centre in the city.
There's other sights here for camera happy tourists, such as old WWII bunkers, mill and pyrites work sites, and general wildlife and scenery. The nature is an important aspect, blending in and out of the old structures providing an aged look that really gives this part of town a great appeal.
Although not a huge lookout, and not heaps to do, grab a picnic basket and head up here (there are plenty of seats and outdoor tables here, no restrictions) for a quiet hour or so. You won't be disappointed.
