Quaint lovely hotel! Apr 11, 2013
We spent one night at this quaint hotel filled with character! Built out of a yellow rock and stone, this hotel is built on the edge of the tiny village of Dana. Sitting on one of the many public sitting areas outside, there are views of the garden area on the hills, but to see views of the Wadi Arabi, you have to walk about 1 min off the property, and then there is a spectacular view.

We stayed in 2 rooms in the tower, Ali Baba and Sunset Royal Suite. Each room in the hotel is different, with different bedspreads, decor, rock floor and tons of character. There is no heating so the rooms can get quite cool, even during the day, but the thick blankets provided kept us warm during the night. Bathrooms are basic and shared but there is hot water though you are required to turn it on for about 1/2 hr prior to use.

Staff is extremely pleasant and we were given welcome tea on arrival. The price of our stay which was 15JD per person included breakfast and supper which the latter is served at 7:30PM. The meal they served at supper was Jordanian food and by far one of our best meals on our trip. Needless to say, they only make so much in a buffet style and once it's gone it's gone.. and it was gone quickly, lol. It was THAT good.

Breakfast was VERY basic, with just a few small choices of veggies, hard boiled eggs, bread, juice and tea. You can buy lunch bags for 5JD for the day is you wish.

You can also hire a guide from here or from the main reserve for hikes around Dana. We had decided to just hire with the hotel to make things simpler, and our hike was good, however I'm about 99% sure that we did not go on the hike that we requested, nor am I sure we were actually in Dana reserve for that hike, though we paid the hotel for our entrance fees. It was still a fun hike and the guide was great with us. Not sure if it was a communication problem or if they were trying to make an extra buck ( that is, if we were not actually in Dana reserve).

Otherwise, we had a fantastic stay and would have actually like to have spent another night there as there were more hikes we would have loved to do.

Towering over the other options... Oct 14, 2007
If you manage to locate Dana there won’t be any difficulty in pinning down this hotel as the three-story structure “towers” over the rest of the village. The Tower Hotel appears to have to witnessed quite a few minimally planned additions over the years and is wonderully ramshackle. Everything here is tattered, but the rates reflect that and frankly the worn down state of things contributes to the charm.

I didn’t stay here, but did drop in on their majlis one evening for tea. The students we had hiked with earlier that day were all camped out at the Tower and shared some of the delightful room names --- there aren’t any room numbers but you can choose the “crazy camel”, the “harem” or the “flying carpet” among others.

Seriously doubt you will enjoy a bounty of amenities, but lodging comes with buffet breakfast and dinner and there is a restaurant on the grounds. Coming across a place to score a meal is difficult in this neck of the woods (I think this is the only restaurant in the village) and they will even fix up a carry out lunch if you want to go explore Wadi Dana during the day.

Given the limited options, the Tower Hotel should prove an intriguing place to camp out and we could see some chairs perched up on the roof which must have afforded splendid views of the wadi. The staff we encountered were all quite friendly and I have to believe this would prove a fun option for your Jordanian adventure.
