Friendly place to stay Jan 04, 2010
The Tour Club Kyoto is a great place to stay. It is only a 10 minutes walk from the JR Kyoto station. The hostel is located in a quiet residential area and for Japan it is also cheap.

It is run by a young and friendly Japanese couple who are always so helpful. They have lived in Canada and speak English perfectly. They were once backpackers themselves and know what the visitors need.

The Tour Club offers dormrooms (2450 yen pr night) as well as private rooms (6980 yen – 11720 yen pr room pr night depending on the style and size). The private rooms are both in Japanese style and western style. The doormrooms have only 4 beds (2 rooms) and 6 beds (1 room) which makes it comfortable. The doormrooms also have good luggage space.

The cleanliness at the Tour Club Kyoto is impeccable. I have stayed here several times and it has always been a joy.

In the western style dining area there is a refrigerator as well as a micro wave which everyone can use. The living room is in a Japanese style and is the place where people meet in the evenings to exchange travel experiences.

The facilities include internet access (100 yen pr 15 min), bicycle rentals, laundry and free tea and coffee.

The Tour Club has become very popular and bookings in advance are necessary. If you don´t get accommodation here, you can also try the Budget Inn. It is close to the Tour Club and is run by the same people.

Their website is very informative. Here you will find information about sites in Kyoto (opening hours and fees) and train time tables in additoin to information about the Tour Club Kyoto of course.

Are you planning a trip to Kyoto, maybe to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoming (Sakura Matsuri) in April, I can higly recommed the Tour Club Kyoto. A warm, friendly and convenient place to stay.

Location was good. Few minutes walk from JR Kyoto Station. Easy to find. Nearby bus stop. The room was clean and small. Bathroom was also small. Good, decent budget rate. We got a room for about $80 for the three of us. The rate is per room, not per person, so that is a pretty good deal.

But for some reason, it just didn't strike me as ooh ahh. Just a place to sleep and rest, but that is all we need, right!? We slept in a "ryokan" style room. Tatami mat floors and three mattresses were laid out on the floor. Kitchen sink by the door and a small private bathroom. Don't expect to much, the price is just right for expensive country!!
