Tour Buses Shanghai Reviews
City Sightseeing Shanghai Nov 19, 2014
I reviewed this type of hop-on hop-off bus in my South Africa blog (http://www.travbuddy.com/Tour-Buses-v818934) and was very impressed with that service. I must say, however, that I am not sure this Chinese version of the experience is associated with the parent company (www.city-sightseeing.com) as China does not appear on their website as a service. If it was a ripoff of the company, then it was a very good one, right down to the nicely painted and comfortable buses, with red headphones to listen to a scripted, but informative recorded guide in many languages.
Whatever the deal is here, it is just as good as I experienced in South Africa. The City Sightseeing bus in Shanghai takes you all over the place for 40 RMB (~$7 USD) per person covering all the routes for 24 hours. I toured Shanghai the hard way by foot and then by this bus the same way, but further afield, the next day. To really know a city it is best to explore on foot, but a bus is an option too. I make no judgement and just saying so. It a personal choice how you choose to roam...
For Shanghai, this bus is a bargain for where it takes you in a day and just have a look at the route map I provide here. You can get on and get off the bus at many designated spots. This is really all you need for traveling around in Shanghai by public transport to see the sights. There's a subway in Shanghai too, and useful for things outside the city center. For my money, pay $7 USD to ride around to all the spots to see for a day (including the ferry across Huangpu River) is worth it and I can put my feet up in relaxation instead of down on the ground in walking.
