Totters Independent Hostel Caernarfon Reviews
Warm, friendly and homely Oct 26, 2015
I’ve stayed in one or two hostels in the past that have suffered something of an identity crisis. They haven’t been able to determine whether they’re catering to the classic backpacker, or the guesthouse/B&B/hotel crowd, and in trying to cater to both don’t really succeed at either. This charming place somehow straddles the dividing line to perfection, in so doing earning itself its rep as a top-notch place to stay among both the backpacker community and those looking for traditional guesthouse comforts.
Run by a friendly, clued-up local family who live in an adjacent cottage, Totters is slap-bang in the middle of this historic coastal town. Both the picturesque Menai Straits and the entrance to the castle are mere minutes away, not to mention the high street shops with all its helpful amenities and bus station.
The dorms have comfortable beds and lockers, and the bathrooms are definitely slicker than your average for a Hostel, with posh showers and hand wash by the sinks as standard.
It’s the communal areas where this place really excels though. The lounge has a TV, comfy sofas and a veritable library of books, plus a table overflowing with useful information leaflets (the huge board in the hallway offers the same). The kitchen/dining area in the basement also impresses: breakfast is included in the price, and board games and other homely antiques/curios add to the charm.
All in all, an excellent Hostel and its little wonder that they attract many repeat visits!
