Tuscan Winery in Texas Jul 31, 2009
I really enjoyed this very nice little Tuscan style winery. They have the best tasting room. Very cozy and full of a variety of specialty food foods from around the country. The staff is very welcoming and has a pretty good knowledge of wines. This is one of the few wineries that charges for a tasting. The $5 fee is not bad if you want to get an idea of what all those names like the Classico which is a hearty red blend, the Red Flirt which is a very sweet red blend, the Dirty Girl which is a sweet white, and a variety of other reds and whites and ports to satisfy the taste buds. They also offer some nice crackers to help enhance the flavors of the wines. They are pretty generous with their pours, which makes for a fun time.

The wines are not the only thing that makes this a perfect place to stop. Every Saturday night as well as a few Friday nights, Torre De Pietra offers a great schedule of music served up on their wonderful patio. The property is surrounded by there wonderful vineyards and a beautiful herb garden. The Maxwell family has owned and operated this place for generations and has really maintained this Tuscan feel right in the heart of Texas. It is worth the short trip from Austin as you make your way to Fredericksburg. The winery also participates in the Texas Winery Passport program. It is simple, pick up a passport from any of the many wineries, visit four wineries and then go and log on to a website, enter your passport codes and within a few days you will receive a nice gift. The more wineries you with, the more rewards you collect.
