Tonsberg Vacation Guide

Tønsberg is Norways (and Scandinavias) oldest town, dating back to the Viking era. The population is about 40 000 people, a little less if you count just the urban center, a little more if you ad the surrounding areas.

The town has a long and rich history, and one of the most known viking ships in Norway was discovered nearby. Tønsberg is still today a maritime center.

There are not so much left of the old buildings, but there are ruins of old churces and settlings. Every summer there's a music festival held on a mountaintop that makes sort of a natural fortress; "Slottsfjellfestivalen".

Tønsberg is about 1,5 hours drive from Oslo, and accessible with train or bus.
