"O.K" hostel Aug 02, 2011
For New York standards, this hostel is cheap in price. but you also don't get much.

Breakfast was not included, but there are grocery stores nearby, no problems. The metro is really close, about 2 blocks from the hostel. Other than that, there really isn't much to do/see in that neighborhood. With that said, you definitely need to take the metro/bus/taxi, or walk a lot to get to the center of Manhattan. However, transportation is pretty good in New York.

Wi-fi was free, there really wasn't a lounge for people to meet, the place was pretty small. I went in August, and it was really hot, we had to sleep with the A/C on full blast, one downside was the loud noise.

But if you really dont care about all those little things, I recommend this place. For the price, what else do you expect? You get a bed, and a bathroom, other than that not much more. The neighborhood however is safe, I was out at night and never felt threatened or uncomfortable.

hostel that needs improvement Jun 29, 2011
The main reason i chose to stay here was because i wanted to experience staying in the upper east side. Walking around the immediate neighborhood though, it is quite evident that it's not as charming as the upper west side. Still, locationwise it still has alot of positives to it. There was a pharmacy less than a block away, where you can stock up on necessities. There are also plenty of restos a short walk from here.

it was a challenge to find the entrace of this hostel at first. Turns out that the main door is in the basement. The room i stayed in was on the smallish side, but there were free lockers and the bathroom set up was efficient since the toilet is separate from the shower. The mattress i had was comfy as least for me, but the metal frame of the bed bunk would often squeak lols. However, what i really did not like was the sight of a mouse in the room.

overall, i would not recommend staying at this hostel because there was certainly some cleanliness issues that they have to resolve there. It's really a shame because this hostel really has alot to offer.

The cheap affordable hostel in New York City Jun 20, 2011
Situated just a 10 minutes walk from Central Park in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in the Big Apple is this small but comfortable hostel Tone on Lex. They have private suites and both female and mixed dorm rooms that vary in size (4-10 beds). There is always someone at the front desk, 24/7, which is good when you need something or want to ask for tips on things to do or book activities. There is no lockout and no curfew so you can basically come and go to the hostel as you want. I stayed 10 nights, 15-25th June 2009, at this hostel and my experience was all right. The staff were friendly and helpful and the people staying there were good people. The best time to stay at this hostel is in summer because there is more organised activities. I tried the "Wednesday pub crawl" with one a person from the staff and everyone who was at this pub crawl had a great time and we went to 3 local bars. There was a charge for the activity and I think it was $8-10, but with the charge you get a free drink at one of the bars. The best one of the 3 bars we went to was "The Big Easy" where the bartenders are friendly and fun...but the best thing is that you can play beer-pong there, try it out! It's so fun and awesome :)

There are some more activities like nightclub party night, BBQ on Friday and something more, I can't remember everything.

When I was staying there they had free breakfast and that was good but the kitchen area is small so sometimes when there are many people there it's better to go outside to eat your meals (they have some tables just outside the kitchen). I don't know if they still offer free breakfast though so check out the website of hostelworld.com for updates.

Hope you find this review helpful! If you have some questions don't hesitate to contact me here at TB :)
