That's what they call it. Clearly no one calling this a ghetto knows the meaning of the word...this is Climber's Paradise. Anyone's Paradise. But of course what they mean is that this is the location of warm, tropical water, white sand beaches, heavy forests of coconut trees teeming with monkeys, a very laid back atmosphere of tiki bars and restaurants (everything is open air, even the bathroom in the bungalow), very inexpensive accomodations-mostly two or three year old bamboo bungalows t...

Merci Anne de m'avoir parle de cette place!  Comme un con, je ne me suis pas renseigné sur les spots de grimpe de la région (ok, 2h d'avion ne se qualifie pas trop comme "dans la région"), et je n'ai même pas emmené mes souliers de grimpe.  Bon, j'ai failli, mais c'était plus parce que je pensais en faire à l'intérieur en Suisse.   Bref, le retour des destinations ghetto, finis les beaux hôtels et les enclos à touristes.  Bienvenu à Ton Sai ...

Tonsai was my most anticipated stop on my entire ten month journey.  With more than 450 bolted routes, it is the biggest rock climbing mecca on the planet.  To put that in perspective I was averaging about five or six routes a day so you could climb for every day for about three months without ever doing the same route twice.  17 of 20 days on the rock did a number on my hands.  My fingertips peeled off twice during that time and as I am currently punching the the ke...
