In September 2007 i realised one of my dreams. I visited Japan.
It was more then I expected and a lot more, than I dared to hope it would be.
Going from Tokyo to Hakone, later to Miyajima and then Kyoto with our last stop after 3 weeks in Osaka.
It was really a dream coming true. Even with a typhoon hitting us and temperatures worth for a desert in summer.

Today was an interesting day. After two weeks of seeing the glamor and glitz of neon-tokyo, my professors took us to the poorer side of tokyo. Its amazing that we were on the train for an hour and were still in tokyo! During World War II, it was the main place for soldiers and pro…

After a decent buffet breakfast at the hotel, we got on our bus and headed to the Imperial Palace. It is the home of Emperor Akihito and other members of the royal family. We were told that the palace was practically destroyed during the air raids in 1945 (despite the popular belief that the …

I have travelled to over 40 countries and Tokyo is by far the most orderly and organised city I have ever seen. It is clean, safe and offers the highest quality food I have ever tasted. Fine dining in Japan is pure theatre.

The Meiji Shrine was a wonderful place to visit. It was very beautiful, gave you a feeling of peace as you walk around, and visited each building located within the Torii Gate. After seeing a few shrine over the years while living in Japan this was the first shrine where we got our first shrine…

On our way back from China Big Boy and I felt it was imperative that we pay our respects to the other Asian superpower, Japan. We spent a couple of days in the city of Tokyo before Big Boy felt it was essential to practice his Buddhist meditation in the solitudes of Lake Hakone with a better view o…

After seeing the anime movie "Spirited Away", who wouldn't want to visit a Japanese bathhouse? Honestly, can anything be better? You see a dragon river-spirit, maybe a giant baby. Or, at least, get really clean. Since I was visiting Tokyo, it was on the top of my list. When I entered one bathhouse …

Arrived in Tokyo having had 0 hours sleep that night and on the back of a night bus the previous night so I had had little sleep. Did manage to see Mt Fuji popping out of the clouds from the plane though which ticked that box. I got to the airport, through immigration and I got my stamp, and am wel…

In March 08 I had to go to Yokosuka on business, but the trip also afforded opportunities to visit Tokyo and join Jenny for leave in Jenny's birthplace--Okinawa.
My objective in Tokyo was to ride the biggest Ferris Wheel in the city (Japanese: 展覧車 (tenransha) or 大観覧車 (daikanransha) or (kanransh) at Kasai Rinkai Park.
Our time in Okinawa was magical, with good weather, beautiful scenery/sunsets/beaches, and reunions with many friends from our time stationed there 2003-05.
