There is no denying that the train system in Japan is truely amazing. You can get anywhere you need to in the country by taking the trains, and local subways systems interconnect with mid and long range trains. The mass transit system is a model that every other developed country in…

I was super excited to visit Tokyo and see the sites. Upon arrival I noticed the design of the metro system was somewhat nonsensical. Well, to me at least. After running 3 days late, I was also running late on time. I had intended to meet up with Izumi, whom I was introduced to by my friend Jen, an…

WOW.... This was just an amazing experience, it will be so hard to describe. It was like being a tiny little ladybird floating on a leaf, carried by the wind into an ants nest. So many people on the trains, on the streets, just everywhere... Very confusing to find ones way around especially i…

Lost in translation at work! Sounds weird to put it this way, but I didn't expect Tokyo to be so japanese (meaning, much less cosmopolitan than Hong Kong or Shanghai)! It was a blast though! Shinjuku is a whole parallel world with a lot of underground stuff going on... Shibuya and Roppongi are good too!

I first met my friend Clara in August 2002 at Eden Hill Hostel in Sligo Ireland. We only hung out together in Sligo for a day before our respective itineraries took us in different directions, but kept in touch over the years. Clara is from Spain, but found a job in Tokyo and relocated to Japan. After leaving my last job, I finally had an opportunity to travel again, so I decided to fly out to visit her and to explore Japan.

It was my last full day in Tokyo and I decided to conquer the daunting subway system... which really isn't that bad.I first made my way to the impressive Edo-Tokyo Museum. It shows a great history of life in Edo/Tokyo throughout history and has some amazing displays. Give yourself time to slowly ma…

1. Japanese people are super, super stylish. I think the women look and dress BETTER as they get older. And the guys all look like they just stepped out of a GQ magazine. Our office was in Shibuya, and every guy who went to work in that area wore a suit that looked like it was painted on them. I me…
