This is from an old xanga entry: japan is one of the most diverse countries i've ever been to. in every district/area that we've visited, there's been a different crowd of people. the harajuku girls definitely scared the crap out of me. a lot of the japanese actually look chinese, and they are so freaking trendy (even the older grandmas can dress it up). i feel like a walking fox paws (faux paus) with my jeans and t-shirt. we've gone to almost all the major areas in tokyo: asakusa, roppongi...

You can't actually enter the Imperial Palace which is where the emperor and imperial family reside so, most views are from afar.

Tattooed in Tokyo

After seeing the anime movie "Spirited Away", who wouldn't want to visit a Japanese bathhouse? Honestly, can anything be better? You see a dragon river-spirit, maybe a giant baby. Or, at least, get really clean. Since I was visiting Tokyo, it was on the top of my list. When I entered one bathhouse in Saitama, I expected Zen-level relaxation and maybe some sake. What I got was a little lady tapping my naked tattoed shoulder, crossing her arms in the universal "no pass" sign, telling me to leav...

Here I am in this fabulous city for the second time this year and it is even more exciting than the first time. The weather is cool with a perfect cloudless blue sky, and at night the Ginza and Shibuyu comes alive.

Japan and China November 2005: Tokyo Travel Photos

This was actually my 3rd trip to Japan and I did it because of my japanese girlfriend I had that time. This country is in many ways so different to what Westerners are used to, so mysteriours, that usually visitors either love it or hate it. There's not much in between. I learned to appreciate Japan already during my first trip and I knew I had to come back. China was something completely different. More chaotic, more dirty and more unpredictable. Like the big clumsy brother of Japan.

Have always visited Tokyo on various occassions but never did stay long. Well, that was amended when I finally went back after being away for nearly 3 years and I have the photos for show-n-tell. Okay, maybe not so much 'tell'.

Tokyo, Japan -› Osaka, Japan -› ...
So I finally am on my way back to NYC, flying from Ishigaki (with a quick stop over in Miyako) to Tokyo the day before my NYC flight. For my last night in Tokyo, I decide to stay in a manga/internet cafe, preferably in a neighborhood with a lot of activity in the streets till late and my bschool friends recommended Shinjuku. Shinjuku reminded me a lot of Dotomburi arcade in Osaka except it was more compact and no over coverings over the streets. Pretty crazy place, it turned out, but v...

Tive muita s...

Vast road, big parks, few people walking, you can hardly imagine that its just 50km from Tokyo. About 40% of the city is covered by park, forest or farm. There are 3 universities, and 60% of Japan's national research centers in here.

My first trip and stay in an asian country was an experience that is not comparable with anything I ever experienced before. Although Japan might be considered one of the most westernized asian countries, it still has its traditions and customs. The japanese have a great sense of hospitality and politeness mixed with a structured society in which hierarchical order is an important and ever present factor. How deep you stoop before another person determines both your and the other persons soci...
