Tokyo Diner Feb 16, 2011
This place is a completely brilliant find. It’s tucked on the edge of Little Newport street and Chinatown, in a discrete premises with a sliding automatic door. It has lovely cosy wooden décor, at nice tables, and it stays open late enough to go after the theatre.

It is, of course, a Japanese restaurant, serving sushi, udon, soba and things like that. I had a huge bowl of Udon noodles with chicken. The broth was lovely and just the right amount of saltiness, and the noodles were great. Japanese tea is free and someone comes round to keep you topped up. The whole bill came to £7.50 or so, and they refuse tips because it’s not part of Japanese culture,

apparently. Service was excellent. This is the perfect place to pop in and have a nice meal before or after doing something in the west end.

good japonese food at good prices Aug 03, 2011
Good Japanese food and relatively cheap for London standards.

Friendly and cozy place. They don't accept tips (tipping is not part of japonese culture).

Centrally located in Chinatown right behind Leicester Square.

Fantastic little place Aug 27, 2009
One of my favourite places to eat in London. It offers good portions of very good food at very good prices. Not only that it does free green tea and when you order curry the rice is all you can eat. The service isn't hugely friendly, but it's very authentic. They will not accept tips as is the Japanese custom, anything you leave will go in the charity box.

Good Japanese food at very reasonable prices Feb 11, 2007
Tokyo Diner is a restaurant just off Leicester Square, round the corner from Chinatown, that serves authentic Japanese cuisine. They have very good lunch offers and you can order them until after 5pm. You get complimentary green tea with your food so often I don't even bother ordering any other drink. The menu offers Bento Boxes - basically a box with several compartments containing rice, your main dish, pickles and soy sauce as well as Sushi, a few Japanese Curries and Soups. Overall, prices are very reasonable and you can easily have lunch there for under £10! The staff are quite reserved and the rule for payment is Japanese style: no tips accepted, just come back again with your friends! This is one of my favourite places and whenever I am in the area I make sure I come here.

My sister took me to the Tokyo Diner for lunch. I was surprised at how cheap it was considering the location.
