Japanese food you find in Tokyo, only in London May 23, 2008
Honest, this tastes just like what you find in Tokyo, they have the best Chicken Katsu Curry outside Japan. I've tried so many take aways living here, so many Chinese and Japanses restaurants and Toku is exactly the same as in Tokyo. You cant go wrong. They serve the full variety of Japanese dishes, Sushi, Curry, Udon, ect. It's excellent quality, the service (thought they do get busy at times and have been known on the odd occasion to take a while to get to you once you sit own, but very rarely) can not be beaten! If you have to wait, which is very rare even at main meal times when the shop gets busy, it's worth the wait! The servings are generous and the taste is excellent. If you like Japanese cuisine it's wonderful! So very very yummy. If you like sushi, apart from some of the more upper scale restaurants, it's some of the very best. The atmosphere is fun, it's nothing fancy, you see people come from work or go specifically for tea time. It's a good mix of people and like I said... YUMMY! I suggest you go a bit before work lets out or before or after the lunch hour as at the main meal times you may have to wait for a table, but it's not a bad wait as the food comes out fairly quickly and turnover for tables seems quick on average. I go in about once a week when I visit other places in London. The other amazing thing this restaurant has for it is location! Like I said in the directions, it's just down from Eros and the Piccadilly Circus billboard, so it's relatively close to the theaters just about 10 minutes. It's also down the road from Fortnum and Masons, which is lovely. The main Waterstones Bookstore where there's often signings going on, is between the two. It's also worth the look in at the Japan Center next door, the basement has a bookstore and the ground floor is a supermarket. If you look across the street and to the left there are a few little restaurants and tucked in is a traditional Japanese sweets shop, super cute even if you just want to look in, the sweets sometimes look scary but they're lovely. Now, if you leave the restaurant and want to pretend you in Japan for just that little bit longer finding the the Sweets shop and Japan Center just weren't enough for you, head back towards Eros, but take the corner to the right, then go to the first crossing just over the little side street, if you turn to your right is Mitsukoshi Department store, there's a JP Book store in it's basement as well as some nicer end tourist tack and it hosts some really upper scale labels, including Burburry, LeSportsac and some very unique bags, there's china, Harrods items. It's a nice place and again like the other Japanese stores in the area, the service is fantastic. Super nice people. I could go on and on about this area in London, it's a great little restaurant to stop over in if you're feeling tired and just need a quick bite, or if you want a filling meal to end or start your day with. Try it! You just might see me there grinning over my curry and oolong tea ;)
