Worth a visit Apr 12, 2013
I had very little time to spend in Ipoh but being desperate to visit a few cave temples in the outskirts of town.I hired a cab and I reached the Tokong Nam Thean Tong temple was hardly a 20 minute drive from my hotel. The Dolomite cave temple was adjacent to a Buddhist monastery and is said to be one of the first Taoist temples built around the 18th century. It was a huge cave guarded by a statue of lion and also of a warrior. The cave was huge and there was also a narrow passage taking you uphill from where you could view the town.It had several statues and paintings of Taoist deities. This temple was once famous for the miraculous manifestation of the face of Buddha on the hill.Running short of time I did not climb up the steep stairs to view the town from the hill but spent some time looking at the various statues and paintings. The name of the temple I was told meant "meditation" but I could not meditate on any issue as I was badly short of time to catch my Train to Kuala Lumpur.
