Don't eat like a tourist Dec 11, 2011
When visiting Charleston you may want to play tourist, but that doesn't mean you have to eat like a tourist. Avoid popular 'tourist restaurants' like Hymanns Seafood and Charleston Crab House. They are overpriced and hyped up. For a nice night out try Hanks Seafood or Magnolias. Walk down King Street and try out Basil for outstanding Thai Food, or drive down to Santi's for some authentic Mexican. Both have great food and nice atmospheres. Head out to Folly Beach and check out Taco Boy for the BEST guacamole you've ever tasted, or Rita's for the most unbelievable nachos in the south east. If you're trying to relax on a less crowded beach, try Sullivans island and grab a bit at Poe's or some quick BBQ at Home Team BBQ.

I'm a huge foodie and don't want people getting sucked into the wrong restaurant :)
