A useful tips for you Jun 14, 2012
I have some useful tips for those of you who are visiting London the first time.
1. VAT - Remember, everything you buy in London has a 20% Value Added Tax included in the price. It is easy to claim for a VAT refund at the airport (when you leave). To do that, you need to keep the receipt of your purchase and have it stamped (endorsed) at the shop you are buying from. They will stamp a VAT stamp on it.Bring your baggage with you to the VAT REFUND counter. If you have check in your baggage you cannot claim anything as they might want to see the products. They charge 2 pounds if you want a instant cash refund or there is no charge if they bank in to your credit card account.
2.Take the bus. It is cheaper and easier to travel by bus in London. Most bus stop are along the road you are walking. The bus fare is 1.35 pound as against the tube fare of 2 pounds. There are bus map together with the tube map. You will save alot of walking up and down the tube. If the tube station is only a station away, walk. Sometime they are only 5 minutes walk apart. Faster than you go down to tube station. The buses are only a few minutes apart. However, if your destination require a change of bus, it is cheaper to travel by tube. 1.35 pounds fare twice instead of 2 pounds for tube.
3.The drinks and snacks in central London are more expensive. Buy it if you are staying on the outside.
4. If you are going to the theatres go the the respective theatres to get your ticket.Dont buy your ticket at the so called Official Ticket Discount Stall. It is not true. They are not cheaper and on top of that they add another 30% as service charge. You wont know it as it is priced into the ticket they quote you.
I have to go through the hard way to learn this.:)
