.The currency in kenya is the shilling abbreviated by Kshs/ksh and the sign /=.the kenyan nickname fo the shilling is "bob" so if someone tells you a beer is 200 bob dont get confused.
."Matatu" the swahili name for bus/a minivan is the main local mode of transport but the best way around Nairobi is by taxi, although its time effective and easier to use and safer, taxi's are very expensive unless your using them as a group.for a bus ride worth 50 kenyan shillings a taxi ride can cost you 500 kshs or more.
if you prefer using a taxi always agree on the price first, and if you think your being over charged you can always bargain.some taxi guys can try to charge you more because most taxis dont have meter readers.
.in kenya we drive on the left hand side and you pay parking fee's in all towns and the city centre of about 150 kshs a day and it doesnt matter whether your parking for only 10 minutes the price is stil the same but once you pay for parking you get a ticket which you can use to park anywhere else you want to,as long as you leave itstrategially placed somewhere on the inside of the car where the city council can easily see it when they come checking.
.If you plan on using a "matatu"make sure you know where youre going and how much it costs and whther youre on the right bus every route has a number that the matatu's use.if you dont know youre way around and you still want to use a "matatu"make sure your with someone you personally know.
