Tiāndì Yījiā is a beautifully decorated restaurant not too far from Tiananmen square. It has a large indoor pond with hundreds of fish and classic looking furniture. The menu is top-notch with prices that are quite higher than other restaurants in Beijing, but for westerners still very affordable.
Lonely Planet call the restaurant staff ‘snobbish’, but I don’t agree at all! My husband and I had lunch here after visiting the Forbidden City. We were sweaty, our hair stuck out in ten different directions since we just had taken an open riksja and we were definitely not wearing our best outfits that day. When we entered the stylish place we felt a bit awkward, but the friendly waitresses welcomed us nonetheless and treated us as if we were royals.
