Tigard, Oregon is part of the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area and has a population of 46, 300 as of 2000. Located in Washington County, Beaverton is the 11th largest city in the state of Oregon.
Tigard is named after the first settler and his family, Wilson M. Tigard. Tigard arrived in East Butte in the East Butte area in 1852 and contributed in the building of the East Butte School, the post office and a general store. By 1896 the area was growing at a rapid pace as waves of German settlers began settling in the Tigard area. In 1910 the Oregon Electric Railway helped the area grow from a small farming community to an up and coming city.
Tigard was incorporated in 1961.
