Ticonderoga is a small yet beautiful town in eastern New York. South of Plattsburgh, it's also across a narrow strech of Lake Champlain from Vermont. Ticonderoga is famous for two things- its Fort and Mt. Defiance. Both were important to the American Revolutionary War.

The Fort was first used during the French and Indian War before it was used in the Revolutionary War. It is now privately owned, and open to the public from May to October.

Mt Defiance doesn't have a fort, but now it does have a small picnic area. It offers good views of Fort Ticonderoga from above, and across the lake to Mount Independence in Orwell, Vermont.

Amtrak runs a train that runs through Ticonderoga between its NYC and Montreal run.
