We spent our first night at Dongcuo hostel but very quickly decided to move to the Yak hotel as the facilities at the hostel were not great. We stayed in dorm rooms in the hotel and the facilities were clean and comfortable and the roof terrace has great views of Potala Palace.

I happened to be in China after the rally and going overland to HK, passing through close to a place called Xiahe in Tibet (although China). It was a wonderful diversion and I have learnt that Tibetans are the most exotic amazing looking people! It was funny to be an object of fascination to them as much as they were to us! There were a lot less monks we were told and about 300 were still imprisoned.
