Thüringer Glasperle - Schauwerkstatt Engelsbach Reviews
Glass beads made by light hands Jul 09, 2011
’Thüringer Glasperle’ is an authentic place manufacturing and selling original Thuringian handicrafts made of glass beads. It’s a combination of shop and studio located in the village of Engelsbach.
We’ve been told, that melting glass with a blow lamp and forming very unique beads for jewellery and decorations is an old, traditional handicraft which isn’t a skilled trade in Germany anymore. That means this art, which was invented and developed in the lifetime of Pharaoh Ramesses centuries ago, won’t exist for many future generations any longer.
Thüringer Glasperle is a shop where you can find all sorts of handmade, colourful glass bead jewellery like necklaces, earrings and bracelets for a reasonable rate. If you have a certain wish like shorten a necklace the shop owners are happy to do so.
Besides you can watch them making new glass beads, and listen to an informatory explanation of their creative ideas and daily work that is not the same as glassblowing. I especially liked this (free of charge) view behind the scenes.
All in all Thüringer Glasperle is absolutely worth a visit when passing Engelsbach. Don’t miss the chance of learning about a brilliant local handicraft, and purchasing an unequaled piece of jewellery/ art.
