Never mix a full time bar with a hostel May 14, 2017
What is a hostel? A hostel is a place for the budget conscious travellers to rest, offering self catering facilities and a place for the like minded to socialise.

Sadly, this hotel doesn't tick off on 2 of the 3 mentioned above.

Let's get with the bonuses:

1. Great great location. Did I say great location? a ten minute walk from the Eiffel Tower, ridiculously close to the Metro with everything from the grocery store, restaurants and patisseries all located within a stone's throw.

2. Wifi works in the hostel rooms! Have I ever said that?!

3. Clean and secure

4. Great buffet breakfast

So, with that said, where did I think it lacks?

1. Lack of social atmosphere: as there is a fully functioning bar on the ground floor, which is a regular haunt for locals, the place is seemingly crowded, noisy, and impossible for the hostel residents to get together and socialise. There is no warm lounge conducive to conversations.

2. Awful kitchen: it's the size of the matchbox, no glasses or cups, and near impossible to cook (hard to find cutlery, knives, cutting boards, etc.). It's ideal for buying microwaveable food and storing it in the fridge (which, opening it is the equivalent of ripping open a safe).

3. Lack of certain facilities in the bedroom: The bunker beds screech, the ladder is a bit too steep, there are no barriers on the upper bed (1 wrong tumble and down you go). They could also add certain little touches like charging points for those in the upper bunk.

In short, I'd recommend this hostel to the traveller who needs a resting place with good wifi in his room. Certainly not to the traveller who is planning on meeting people of his ilk (which, when you think of it, is the whole point of a hostel).

That's not what I meant to imply. I meant to say that they show up in their own groups, etc. and don't want to socialise with those staying in the hostel.

Relaxing experience at an affordable price Oct 23, 2015
When one says hostel, they usually think of a run down dreary place where it is chaotic, noisy and the last thing you can do is sleep. This is far from the truth for Three Ducks Hostel.

Although it is a very fun and friendly environment, you are able to adjourn to your room where you can rest and rejuvenate from a long day of sightseeing. At 40 years old, I never thought I could be used to this and was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised.

The accommodations are more than adequate and the only thing I can think of that is a negative is the size of the water closet. But this is typical of the European experience I have found so I would not deduct any points for it.

Their staff made me feel at home when I was thousands of miles away and provided insight into locales to visit as well as what to watch out for in the city.
