places that are good to see between sydney and cairns:

Nelson Bay : is about 2 hours north of sydney it has one of the longest beaches in Australia(Stockton Beach) on which you can take 4 wheel drive tours and go sandboarding. You can also take quad bike tours of the beach or horse rides on the beach which are both great. You can go out on dolphin and whale watches from the town mariner.

Byron Bay : This is a hyppi town closer to the queensland boarder. It has great markets and you can visit the most eastern point of Australia.

Gold Coast: this has alot of high rise buildings along the beach, it has some good theme parks and attractions and good night clubs.

Whitsunday Islands: these are really pretty and are a gateway to a really nice part of the great barrier reef. you can go on snorkling sailing and reef tours. There is also the famous white sand beach on which the sand is made of a silcone base. You can also take day trips to the island resorts to use their facilities. The cheaper place to stay is on airlie beach and you can do all the trips around the islands from there. If you have more money long island resort is great too.

Coffs harbour: isn't to bad it is the home of the big banana and the banana plantations Australia has a whole lot of big objects up the coast but this is the most famous. It is in New South Wales a 4 ro so hours north of newcastle.

They are a few of the places I have seen which are worth a look i havent been much further north than the gold coast and the whitsundays so i can't tell you about places up that high.

by the way i live in Australia.
this is a picture of the whitsunda…
