Thean Hou Temple Kuala Lumpur Reviews
Thean Hou Temple Jan 16, 2016
Thean Hou Temple is one of the popular temples in KL opened in the 80's and housed many Chinese Marriage Registrations. It's located near Midvalley Megamall / KL Sentral Train Station but definitely not walking distance and not accessible by public transport apart from taxis, or if you engage a tour.
The best time to go is probably during Chinese New Year (usually January/February) as it will be nicely decorated with red lanterns. I would suggest to go at night for better lighting effects, but do expect some crowds as Chinese will flock this temple to pray for prosperity, fortune, health, and everything positive for the new year.
If you happen to go over the weekend or on auspicious dates, you may see some couples exchanging vows, although in this modern day, they don't wear wedding dresses/ Chinese attire.
Admission is free although you're encouraged to make a small donation in which you get to take 4 jossticks thereafter, to pray. There's also a place where you can have your fortune read by picking a stick with number and match it to it's reading.
Next to the main temple is a small garden with 12 animal statues representing the 12 Chinese Zodiacs.
I personally wouldn't go out of the way just to visit this place, but if you are nearby and have some time to spare, why not.
