When you get to the ancient site of Buduruwagala you’ll only have to walk a short while from the entrance to the rock which has been carved hundred of years ago. When you look at the carvings it is hard to estimate there age for somebody like me without much knowledge of archeological sights. But it is estimated the carvings is about one thousand years old.
The central figure is much taller than the other and is about 15 meters tall. You’ll see it just as you walk down the small path from the entrance where you’ll be asked to pay 200 rupias which seems to be the standard entrance fee for this kind of place if they charge an entrance fee.
Right next to the central figure is a couple of smaller carved figures. You can walk up upon a small rock if you want to get a bit to the carvings to the right of the figure. Except for these carved figures there are not a lot to see at the sight so you’ll probably only spend a short time visiting the area but it is still worth the effort to go and see the carvings.
The only way to get to this small ancient site of Buduruwagala is if you got some sort of private transport - there are no public buses going down the small local road leading to the sight. Hence if you don’t already have a car you need to take a taxi or a tuktuk to go here. In either case you should be able to negotiate a reasonable price around $5 - like always in this part of the world the exact price will depend on your negotiation skills.
