Bargain hard. Feb 13, 2013
Shopping yes things are quoted high but hard bargaining would get you a great deal. I went around the shops bargaining hard and fixed up what and where to get my things from. The shop keepers are not bossy but may be pushy.Local currency is the best way to pay and you better exchange your dollars at govt recognised money changers located at small shops almost in every street. The old market area is the hub of activity during day which begins very early.Grocer, fish and meat shops open first and the souvenir shops spread their wares around 10am.The market is clean and commuting to and from here to anywhere else in town is no worry for Tuk Tuk rickshaws are a plenty. The travel and tour programmers have different programs to suit your plans and budget. Banks, departmental stores and restaurants abound the area.Wine and alcohol are also available at the departmental stores and are cheaper in the bigger ones. The Pub street is next to the old market and springs to life at night. The night Market is on the the banks of the river and just opposite the old market. It opens around 8pm and is almost open till till 1 or 2 am. The streets are well lit and decorated and you can securely shop and dine around even though there may not be many police men around.
