The Yellow Train Ride, St. Lucia Feb 09, 2011
There's not a great many things to do in St. Lucia, but I was on a cruise ship and this was rated highly. Apart from being too long a good two and a half hours, it was utterly boring, expensive and if it wasn't for the elderly lady who tried to serve us drinks whilst trying to hold on for dear life as we trundled through one sugar field after another. We had least laughed our heads off as she also became the entertainment by singing (Cats chorus, springs to mind) a few old gospel songs and ended with a smile that revealed several missing teeth. Also if you are unfortunate to not be able to ride on the open carriage the view was even more disappointing as we got to see the sugar cane fields at grass roots level. When we got to our destination we were surprised to find coaches ready to take us back to the Port. At least were spared another 2and half hours back on the train. We were charged in the region of $45.Unless your a train buff this is a complete waste of money. Uncomfortable and bumpy with nothing more interesting than a few pigs scrabbling on the track for morsels and the train whistling from time to time as children watched all of us and we stared back waving furiously.Sedate and maybe your grandma would enjoy a rather pointless tourist trip.
