Back in the 1890s buildings were made to last and in the 21st century the McIntyre, Hog and Marsh shirt factory lives on as one of Donegal’s best-known restaurants. The original timber floors, stone walls and iron support pillars make an atmospheric home for the Yellow Pepper.

The restaurant is located in lower main street just beyond the library and offers lunch, afternoon and evening menus. What I like most about the establishment is their on-going commitment of decent quality and consistency. I think they have been operating with the same management since 1994 or 95. There is always fresh fish on the menu and they seem always to have at least 2 good vegetarian options on the menu.

I liked their baked cod with chorizo oil which comprised of fresh cod on a bed of smoked lentils & chorizo sausage. On the night I called their famous monkfish was off. The restaurant has a full bar and (for Donegal) a pretty decent wine list if a bit weak on old world choices. If you are in the town of Letterkenny and fancy a quality and tasty meal - lunch or evening - I can personally recommend the Yellow Pepper. The encourage evening bookings and can be contacted on +35374 91 24133
