The Yellow Hostel Sep 22, 2014
I have been in Yellow Hostel for 2 nights

Location: Great .. only 10 mins walking (or less) to Termini Station (Main station in Rome) also less than 5 mins walking to another metro Station

Staff: Very helpful, cheerful and Organized

whatever you ask for, they will afford :)

Rooms: was in a 6 beds/room, room was clean, comfortable beds, shared bathroom was clean but narrow

Yellow bar: open 24X7, however open air area till 12:00 am only, there is a mini club downstairs, too small but crazy atmosphere

The Yellow Mar 22, 2011
Thing that bothered me the most is price of the beer in the Yellow hostel. I mean 5 euros for small bottle of not good beer is just ridiculous for hostel, and actually it is criminal... General feeling is that everything is set to rip you of as fast as possible which makes Rome just a bit less enjoyable. Price for the six bed dorm was something like $25, which is the most I ever paid for any hostel in the world (and this was the cheapest place I could find on online hostel searches).

The Yellow is located around four blocks from Termini station, which is the main railroad station in Rome, and it is two blocks away from the metro station. You could use underground to come closer to the hostel, but there is no really a reason for that. Station surrounding at the night is a bit sketchy, with some characters moving around, but around hostel there are many hotels and few restaurants, that make that area pretty safe.

Hostel is very big, located in one of the old buildings, and it has multiple floors and one super small elevator that fits two people or one with backpack. I was on 5th floor, and I must tell you that walking up there, on high ceiling Italian buildings, is not easy at all. Rooms are good, nice beds, and lockers are under the bed on rails that allow you to tuck in everything inside, and have lots of space. Bathrooms are communal, very clean and spacious, with nicely done shower boots, enough restrooms for everyone… All rooms have little table to sit and do your thing and large windows or terraces. I spent there one week, and it was worm, clean and nice. To get into rooms and bathrooms, you use card key that is not always working, but it is excellent system

Reception area is on the bottom floor, they are very helpful and they have maps for you to use. Tourist info has much nicer free maps, so get them when you are waking around. Also on the bottom floor there is bar and restaurant that belongs to the hostel. I ate breakfast there, but I tried to get better experience than hostel restaurant… it is Rome… food should be good, right… Wireless internet is available in the bar area, and great thing that they do for guests is lending the iPad’s for free, for first 30 minutes. After that you have to pay something like 2 euro per hour, but how long do you need to use internet in order to check your email…

When you are going around the town, for longer distances you can use subway, which is pretty cheap, but for everything else just walk around. Rome is surprisingly easy to walk, and you can see amazing things on almost every corner. Closest museums are four blocks away, large supermarket (with good and cheep beer) is only two blocks away, and I suggest you go there. Hostel does not allow other alcohol on the premises (they explain that they don’t have licenses for that type of beer so we can’t drink it there ?!?!?) but you can enjoy it sitting outside.

In general good place, overpriced, but recommended.
Outside of hostel
Subway is fast, safe, cheep and co…
Station closest to hostel is Vitto…

Where lifelong friends were made Jun 03, 2010
Love love loved this hostel! I found it very clean, safe, and full of personality, mostly because I met such wonderful people there. Less than a five minute walk from Termini station, it really couldn't have been in a better location. The bathrooms were surprisingly decent - even offering a soap dispenser in each shower stall, and hair dryers. You could also rent a towel with a deposit of 10 euro which you got back when you turned it in. The cafe/bar was my favorite feature, as I got a tasty and inexpensive breakfast there every morning, as well a drink in the evenings, especially during happy hour. There was also an outside patio area for eating/drinking/and mingling with other guests. Overall, I couldn't have asked for more, and wouldn't hesitate to stay there on future visits to Roma.

A few tips:

Use the showers in the morning - they're much cleaner.

Put the key card in the door and hold it until green, don't swipe it.

Take advantage of happy hour in the bar, as well as breakfast.

If you're a light sleeper, pack earplugs.

Most importantly, make friends!

Hot and sweaty but good value. Jun 02, 2010
This hostel is just five minutes walk from Rome Termini Station, ideal location, close to subway. Rooms are very basic, beds are quite comfy with very secure lockers under the beds. Shower rooms are shared between a floor, they were extremely dirty, full of hair and grime when i used them on every occassion. Dorms were hot and stuffy, with just one small fan to cool the whole 7 bed room. Was very hard to sleep at night as it was so sweaty. Internet access is available for free for a limited time per person. You may have to wait a long time to get to use it though. The bar downstairs is a great place to meet people and if you pick up a map from reception on arrival, theres lots of discount vouchers and coupons for use across the city. Would stay here again at a push, maybe try somewhere different first.

Great location, friendly staff Feb 19, 2010
Situated just 5 minutes away from Rome Termini station, this hostel is a perfect base for sightseeing in Rome. After a few drinks, you’re not likely to need an expensive Italian taxi as your walk is very short - this saves you money indirectly! As there is a small supermarket and great patisserie nearby, staying at the hostel is ideal to stock up on water bottles, fruit or some dolce to round off your day nicely!

The hostel also has a bar next door, which offers discounted drinks for those staying with them. Whilst good for you pocket, it also means you become friends with those who probably sleeping on the same floor as you!

The rooms are of a high standard. The dorms are nicely spaced, with clean sheets and a very secure locker at the base. The shower and toilet/washbasin rooms are separate, which is great on saving time and avoiding a queue in the morning. The staff are very helpful, offering a free and easy to use map as well as plenty of advice before you finalise your sightseeing plans. They have a very good laptop rental service if you want to use the internet, or there is free wifi if you have your own laptop.

Overall, these features make the hostel a great stay in Rome. I would recommend it to anyone and would definitely stay there again when I visit again.
