The Westin Riverwalk

A trip down to San Antonio for a series of meetings found me at the Westin Riverwalk for four nights in July of 2011.

Arrived at the hotel shortly before noon on Monday morning and was pleasantly surprised to be able to check in immediately (probably helpful that it was in fact a Monday). Up to a moderately spacious room on the 8th floor that was my home for the week. New flat screen TV in the room was a nice update. Overall the room was in good shape but nothing stood out positively or negatively one way or the other from other typical rooms of the same hotel class.

Observations:

Fee for internet usage, and other than for printing boarding passes the business center computers cost extra as well.

Fitness room had a sufficient variety of cardio and strength equipment. No waiting at any of the times I stopped to work out.

Swimming pool - Rooftop pool (4th floor) looked nice when I walked by on the way to the fitness room, but never had the opportunity to spend time there

Restaurant (Zocca) - three lunches here. Small menu for quick lunches. Pasta and pizzas (all around $10 or so). More upscale menu for dinner but went other places for those meals.

Conference Rooms - While not of as much interest for the casual stay, we were treated well by the Westin staff during our meetings. Continental breakfast, afternoon snacks, and drinks were provided as part of the package that was set up.

The hotel is located directly on the Riverwalk in San Antonio with easy access to the restaurants and shops that are part of this district. I didn't venture further than the Riverwalk district and didn't really need to as there is a variety of dining options within a short distance.

The Westin is a bit pricey as are the standard hotels in this class, but its not much different than what you'd pay for with a similar hotel in the same location. All in all it was a satisfying stay.
