The Waverley Tea Room Glasgow Reviews
Waverley Tea Rooms Jan 11, 2014
The Waverley Tea Rooms, is, rather wonderfully, a posh little hipster bar and restaurant with a soft play centre for children. This works better than you might think. During the day time, it serves nice food and coffees and teas as well as alcohol, and the children have a nice dedicated area in which to do what children do best, at the far end of the seating area. In the evening, a curtain is pulled over in front of the play area, any remaining children are contained with their families, the lights go down and the music goes up, and it turns into a normal bar, with a really good indie music sound policy. This makes it the perfect place to go if you or your friends have had kids but other friends haven’t, as the décor and ambience is really nice and cool but the children are included. Between this and the microbrewery at Bar West I am beginning to believe that Glasgow is possibly the best city in the UK for the sort of parents that still want to see their single friends. The decorative Alice in Wonderland theme morphed well from being child-friendly before sundown to appropriately quirky and interesting once the drinking got going.
The menu has burgers, fish and chips, pastas and risottos and some really astonishingly impressive salads as well as lovely desserts. There is a cocktail menu and the wine was lovely. The staff are very nice and service was prompt and good. Prices are good value – I paid about £20 for two courses and two glasses of wine. If you have older kids with you, then they are allowed to assemble their own pizzas. The menu does not say if grown ups are allowed to assemble their own pizzas – it might be worth asking!
