An afternoon treat Apr 10, 2011
If you are travelling to London you have to visit the Wallace Collection from 2pm-5pm so that you can take advantage of the afternoon tea set menu which includes finger sandwiches, scones, jam, cream and a variety of teas. The service isn't the best, you have to learn to be patient but it's just a lovely thing to do after a nice walk in Regent's Park and a browse around the old-worldly art the Wallace Collection houses.

The Wallace Collection - from a single family May 16, 2009
You can get the details of the history of the collection from the website. My review is about my experience of the collection and why i am surprised that its taken me this long to make it there!

The collection is unique in that it reflects the tastes of three men from the same bloodline. you can really follow the passage of time and popularity as you move through the house.

i managed to catch one of the free tours, which was informative, not overly peppered by the guide's personal beliefs and views. she pointed out the important pieces (due to the maker or the purpose of the item or previous owners) and also provided some historical accounts of the house itself.

I would go back to tour the amazing gallery of old masters again, and take more time over the cabinet of exquisite french porcelain.

Definitely worth visiting even if your tastes are not quite stepped in french roccoco.

the cafe is in a beautiful atrium, and it was a pity that i didn't have time to take afternoon tea there, so another reason to go back!

The collection is walking distance to Selfridges, so you can drop in for some quick shopping after it closes at 5pm.

This free exhibition is located close to the Bond Tube station. With an exhibitions with alot of old medeival armors and weapons, old pictures of several quite big names and a big collection of old things this is a must see if you are in the area.

Sadly there is not allowed to take pictures inside. Dont even try to take a camera from you pocket as the guards will come running.

To walk past most of the exhibition will take 1 to 1.5 hours.
