Hotel you check-in just for the views of Monument Valley Sep 02, 2014
Location, Location. This is just what is best to describe the best asset of The View Hotel owned by the Navajo Indians - the only ones allowed to build close to the amazing mountain formations or within the Monument Valley.

I have stayed in this hotel three times, and it is not because I like the hotel very much in itself, but because it offers the best view for guests that I bring with me to Monument Valley. The hotel is a bit overpriced ($280 up) and the rooms are just standard looking, but it makes up for the price through the amazing views that you wake up to. The food is also just "standard" and nothing spectacular. If you want to eat something else, you would have to drive and good luck if you find anything bette around the area (not too many restaurants around this part of the desert.

They have a gift shop with "extremely steeply-priced" Native Indian items, collector items and so they are expensive. But when you sit outside at the huge patio, you will be amazed with the "view". Most just sit back and relax, and if your group is noisy, the other tourists may look at you badly because it seems to be a place where silence is golden and the view is appreciated in meditation.

My favorite spot in the hotel is a rock outside the hotel door (at the side or back) where I stand on and take my jumping shots. The pictures here are precious.

Even if you are not checked-in at the hotel, you can still go in and enjoy the views here as a tourist. Just pay the entrance fee into Monument Valley and go in to the hotel. There are other cheaper inexpensive hotels about 20 minutes away in Kayenta.

Unfortunately, the service in The View as I have witnessed is not really top-notch. They are not unfriendly but it does seem that they do not have that "personal touch" or smiling service that sometimes adds to the enjoying your stay at the hotel. The Native Indians are not unfriendly, but it looks like the hotel just needs better hotel management and customer service training.

But, people will flock and still check-in here, like me, because the views are just amazing and so convenient to be close to the amazing views. Hopefully, the hotel will provide more amenities for its guests in the future. Will see during my fourth visit....

Spectacular View Of Monument Valley Aug 09, 2009
This new hotel, which opened in December 2008, is a very hot location. The Navajo economy is based on tourism, and the new hotel represents what could become the centerpiece (or even the crowning jewel) of Navajo tourism - something that will make MV more hospitable for the huge numbers of tourists that make the long trek for hundreds of miles to this remote location. The hotel building itself is nothing to write home about. Other than blending into the surrounding rocks perfectly.

The hotels rooms are comfortable and equipped with a flat-panel TV's. What I like though is that the hotel was designed so that every balcony faces what defines Monument Valley - the buttes!

Even though this hotel is great, it does have its flaws. First of all, its in the middle of nowhere! Meaning after the restaurant closes you are on your own - there is Gouldings down the road - but thats only if that restaurant stays open late. Other than that you are left to drive 20-30 minutes to Mexican Hat or Kayenta and hope something is still open there. Also there is no pool and no laundry facilities on property. Just so everyone is clear, this is no where close to being fancy. If you are looking to be pampered by a spa/room service/or bell boys this is not it, i mean cell phone service so sketchy in this area as well... but overall a great new gem!

Very helpful to know about the facilities. Sounds like it would be worth a visit for for one night (self-catering)

I couldn't care less for places that are open at night. When I'm in MV, I'm there for the nature and not partying... LOL

Hotel that lives up to its name Nov 23, 2009
This is a great hotel overlooking the Valley. The rooms were nice and the view outside the rooms is awesome. The rooms were basically average but they all had a balcony overlooking Monument valley. The price is kinda high (over $200 USD)and there is only one restaurant in the area (nothing even close) so they kinda charge a high price for the food too. I would suggest you pack a picnic lunch or bring something with you before you get here. But the 17 mile road through the valley is just on the side of the Hotel.

This hotel lives up to its name. You can see from the pictures it sits right on the edge and overlooks Monument Valley. We stayed one night and got some amazing pictures from the balcony. I had fun setting up my camera to take a time exposure every minute for the night. My battery went dead but got about 300 pictures, hoping to catch a shooting star, but no luck. Maybe next time.

I am not much on spending this much for a room, but it is worth it one time. You can get morning and night pictures of the valley. Since there is nothing around, the night is very dark and you can see all the stars. Definitely worth a stay, hopefully you can share the expense with others. Lol
